Summit County Government, through its Open Space and and Trails Department, is committed to the acquistion and maintenance of public trails. Generally, these trails are acquired through the subdivision process or via dedication from landowners.

These trails serve as public recreational access points to public open space areas or to the White River National Forest backcountry.

Summit County Government advocates the Leave No Trace principles (www.lnt.org) which include:

  • Plan Ahead and Prepare
  • Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces
  • Dispose of Waste Properly
  • Leave What You Find
  • Minimize Campfire Impacts
  • Respect Wildlife
  • Be Considerate of Other Visitors

Information on natural surface trails can be found in the “Summer Recreation Map of Summit County, Colorado” available at the Open Space and Trails Department Office, at the U.S. Forest Service Dillon Ranger District office, 680 Blue River Parkway in Silverthorne, Colorado, or by clicking on this link to recreational resources in the White River National Forest.

Please contact Open Space & Trails Resource Specialist, Claudia Wiley (970) 668-4092, for more information about the Summit County maintained natural surface trails.
