Adopt-A-Trail/Open Space Program

In fulfilling the mission of Summit County Open Space & Trails Department to protect and manage open spaces, recreational pathways, natural surface trails and trailheads, we rely heavily on volunteer assistance through our Adopt-A-Trail/Open Space Program.  Our program is open to people of all ages and abilities, individuals, family groups, corporate groups and teams.

Our volunteers make a two-year commitment to adopt a section of recpath, natural surface trail or open space.  Most volunteers get out sometime late April or early May for the first 'clean up' of the season, and continue throughout the summer into late September/early October, working on their adopted section of trail or open space property twice a month.  Volunteers monitor the condition of the recpath, open space property or natural surface trail; and pick up trash, pull and bag noxious weeds, and report management issues requiring additional attention.  Volunteers prepare and send OS&T a simple report on the work performed and/or issues requiring attention.

For more information, please read the complete description and requirements for the Adopt-A-Trail Program (pdf). The necessary forms for participation in the Program can also be found by clicking here.
