Recycling Services


As of January 1st, 2006 Summit Recycling Project became a project of the new parent organization, High Country Conservation Center (HC3). Although the county now oversees the actual recycling operations, HC3 provides the education and public awareness programs for those operations. In addition to continuing work on waste reduction issues, HC3 also works on Green Building, Efficient & Renewable Energy and other resource conservation topics. The following items may be recycled at the landfill:

*Tires are also accepted at your local tire store, $8.00 - $12.00 for <23"

**Cooling Units/Refrigerators/Freezers etc. are accepted only after the Freon has been removed by EPA approved technician and a certificate is issued to the consumer. Then bring the certificate with you, it will be collected at the gatehouse.

We cannot accept any cooling units without the certificate including air conditioners.

***Clean wood waste: Isolated loads of slash & logs (size is not an issue)are accepted daily. EFFECTIVE 1/1/09 stumps must be separated from slash. Beginning 7/5/11 we have instituted a lower rate for clean, isolated stump loads.  No dirt, rocks, trash or additional slash.  CLEAN STUMPS ONLY.  $31/ton. Loads will be inspected & contaminated loads will be charged at the loose trash rate, along with applicable surcharges and additional hauling fees.   EFFECTIVE 1/1/11 -  Loads of raw dimensional lumber only for construction wood rate - no painted, stained, or treated wood.  Plywood and OSB no longer accepted at construction wood rate (1/1/11) No trash or other construction debris in load.  Pallets without metal strapping or other contaminants are ok.  No metal hardware. Contaminated loads will be charged at the loose trash rate, along with applicable surcharges and additional hauling fees.   Please do not mix your slash with dimensional lumber or pallets. Chip product new in 2009 - 2 inch maximum size requirement to qualify for the chip price.  The price defaults automatically to the slash rate if product does not meet these criteria - also no contamination in the chip load - trash, limbs, log ends, rocks or dirt.  Loose trash rate  & applicable surcharges applies to contaminated loads.

Recycling rates:
Tires – With or Without Rim
16 inches & smaller $8.00    17-23 inches $12.00    24 inches & over  $42.00
Shredded or cut $680/ton
Minimum charge $680.00 if bringing in shredded tires

Appliances are $10.00 per piece up to 2, 3 & more charged as scrap metal.   Computers are not appliances.  See user fees for more information.

Clean slash & tree products:  $31.00 per ton - $15 minimum                            Scrap Metal $40.00 per ton - $20.00 minimum (no barbed wire,chicken wire, rolled fencing, rebar, cables, propane or fuel tanks.  Barrels only accepted with lids off or cut open

Clean construction wood waste $12.00 per ton - $10.00 minimum
***Slash & Construction separate loads – no treated, creosoted, painted or stained lumber in construction, no plywood or OSB, no metal bigger than 4 inches - see full definition above listed in Clean Wood Waste.  Extra charges apply if contaminated.
