Disposing of Hazardous Materials

Common Hazardous Waste and how to properly dispose of it: Please plan ahead: the Summit HHW program operates April 1 through October 31 only, due to cold weather and freezing conditions. Household hazardous waste (except oil) is accepted April 1 thru October 31 from 7:00 am - 3:30pm every Monday - Friday at the Landfill. We appreciate these items being brought in prior to the last hour of operations. Commercial Household Hazardous Waste will be accepted by appointment only. Please call 468-9263x0 to see if available at other times of year.
Paint and most common household chemicals - we accept in liquid form, leave them in the original and sealed containers. Leaky containers must be transported in a sealed 5 gallon bucket for safe handling practices
Residents: $10.00 minimum charge - $2.00 gal 0-15 gallons - $3.00 gal after 15 gallons
Small Businesses: Small Quantity Conditionally Exempt Generators (SQCEG) - $10.00 minimum charge -$3 per gallon. Know the laws: only 250 pounds per month allowed at collection point per SQCEG. MSDS sheets for items to be disposed of are required for businesses.
Oil and antifreeze are no longer accepted at the recycling drop-off centers in both Breckenridge and Frisco. Oil, anitfreeze, and oil filters can be brought to the landfill M-F 7:00 am - 3:30 pm. There is no fee at this time for residential users. Please call 970-468-9263 for information on oil and antifreeze disposal.
Gas - is considered a part of the regular HHW collection. Must leave it in an appropriate gasoline container.
Vehicle Batteries - are accepted at the Frisco and Breckenridge Recycling Centers, or contact your local auto parts store.

Cooling Units/Refrigerators/Freezers etc. - are accepted only after the Freon has been removed by EPA approved equipment and a certificate is issued to the consumer. Then bring the certificate with you, it will be collected at the gatehouse.
We cannot accept any cooling units without the certificate.
