Colorado Life Trak
Administered By Summit County Sheriff's Office , Summit County Ambulance Service, and Summit County Rescue Group.
Colorado Life Trak is a state-wide program designed to offer peace of mind for families of those who suffer from mental disorders, which create a desire to wander from his/her home or school. In December of 2008, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office and the Summit County Ambulance Service received funding from the Colorado Department of Public Safety, Division of Criminal Justice to purchase transmitters and tracking devices to assist in locating someone within minutes of the subject being reported missing.
Program Benefits
- Most clients that wander are found in under 30 minutes once the search with the tracking equipment is started.
- People can be tracked day or night, regardless of weather conditions.
- Colorado Life Trak—Summit County is part of a state-wide program and maintains mutual aid agreements with other participating agencies.
Who can participate?
- Colorado Life Trak is a program for clients who have a mental disability creating the tendency to wander.
- Examples of these conditions Include Alzheimer's, Dementia, Down Syndrome, Autism, Prader-Willi and various brain injuries.
- Additionally, participants in the program must have a daily caregiver and do not drive.
How does it work?

- 911 operators will dispatch Search and Rescue personnel trained to use the tracking devices that allow them to locate the client by their transmitter frequency.
