Summit County Ambulance Service (SCAS) serves Summit County, Colorado, located just west of the Continental Divide and 65 miles west of Denver on Interstate 70.

Summit County, a semi-rural resort community, is located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains and is home to extensive outdoor year-round recreation at elevations ranging from 8600 to over 14000 feet above sea level. Summit County is home to the ski resorts of Breckenridge, Keystone, Copper Mountain and Arapahoe Basin.

The permanent population of Summit County is approximately 29,000 people. During peak holiday seasons, destination visitors numbers can reach 131,000 bringing the county's short term population to 160,000 people.

Summit County Ambulance Service staffs three 24-hour ambulances and one 12-hour ambulance .These ambulances are stationed in strategic locations around the county.  Due to seasonal variation in population, SCAS may increase the available ambulances up to as many as 8 ambulances.

Three fire districts respond provide first response to 911 calls alongside the ambulance. The Copper Mountain Fire District serves the area around Copper Mountain.  Keystone, Montezuma, Dillon, Silverthorne, Frisco, and Heeney are served by the Lake Dillon Fire Protection District.  Breckenridge and Blue River are served by the Red, White and Blue Fire District.

Ambulance response and patient transport within the county is provided solely by the Summit County Ambulance Service, an enterprise of Summit County Government.  Annually we respond to approximately 2200 emergent 911 calls and provide over 1500 inter-facility transports and Critical Care level transports from local medical facilities to destinations throughout our state.

There are three ambulance–receiving facilities in the county that provide emergency medical care. The Keystone Medical Center and Breckenridge Medical Center are Level 5 trauma centers and St. Anthony's Summit Medical Center is a Level 3 trauma center providing 24-hour service at their 34-bed hospital facility.
