Summit County Coroner
Joanne L. Richardson, MFS, EMT-P, F-ABMDI
Joanne Richardson, Summit County Coroner got her start as a deputy coroner in Summit County in 1992 and went on to intern with the Denver Coroner/ME office. She was employed by the Larimer County Coroner/ME’s office for three years during which time she was sent to the police academy. Joanne has been a certified paramedic since 1985 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Emergency Health Services Systems Management at the University of Maryland in 1990. She recently earned a Master’s degree in Forensic Science and Investigation from National University.
In December 2006, Joanne passed the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators (ABMDI) Advanced Board exam and as of this writing is the only elected Board Certified Coroner in Colorado through the AMBDI. Several Colorado Coroner’s and Deputy Coroner’s have taken the Basic exam or Diplomate exam and three deputies in Colorado have passed the Advanced or Fellow exam as of May, 2011.
In January of 2007, the Coroner’s office met accreditation standards through the International Association of Coroner’s & Medical Examiners. The accreditation process consisted of meeting or exceeding requirements in four areas with 31 items under Administrative, 48 items under Forensic, 34 under Forensic & 17 under Facilities.
