SERVICES AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC

FINGERPRINTING:  The Sheriff's Office provides non-criminal justice fingerprinting from 8:00AM to 4:00PM Monday thru Friday.  No fingerprinting is available on weekends or holidays.

Applicants must provide your own fingerprint cards.  Cards may be obtained from your employer or by calling the Colorado State Forms Center at 303-390-2165.

The fee for taking the prints is $15.00 and we accept cash or check.  A valid government issued identification document must be presented at the time of fingerprinting.  All prints are inked; digital (livescan) prints are not available.

Local Police Departments also provide this service to residents of their municipalities.  Please contact the individual departments for fees and information.

BACKGROUND CHECKS: The Sheriff's Office will provide a criminal history check for a fee of $25.00.  The information provided will only contain activity within Summit County, not any of the other municipalities within Summit County or within the State of Colorado.  If you wish to conduct a criminal history check that includes all agencies within the State of Colorado, you can do so online by going to www.cbirecordscheck.com for a fee of $6.85.

COPIES OF REPORTS:  Copies of incident/case reports are available in accordance with the State of Colorado Open Records Law.  Reports are usually available within 72 hours after the date of the event, but may take longer if the incident occurs over a weekend or holiday or the case is under investigation.   Copies of reports are available from 8:00AM to 4:00PM, Monday thru Friday, from our Records Department.  The fee is $7.50 which includes 10 pages of copies; additional copies are $0.25 each.  The fee is waived if you are the victim of the incident, and payment must be made by cash or check.

To request a copy of a report, please complete the RECORD REQUEST FORM and mail or fax to the Sheriff's Office.

If an arrest was made in connection with the incident, copies of the report will have to be obtained from the District Attorney's Office at 1760 Airport Road, Unit A, Breckenridge, CO.  Their phone number is 970-453-2327.

EVIDENCE/PROPERTY RELEASE: The Sheriff's Office shall strive to maintain property in the same condition as received, and to preserve the evidentiary value and integrity of property, which has been received for possible court presentation.  Unless property is contraband, hazardous, illegal to possess, or is to be presented into court, every reasonable effort will be made to ensure the return to the rightful owner.

Evidence and property are released by appointment only from 8:00AM to 4:00PM Monday thru FridayIn order for your property to be released, you must have a letter from the District Attorney's Office stating your case has been resolved and the property may be released.

Please contact our Criminal Investigations Division at 970-453-2232 x307, x308, or x325 to schedule an appointment.  On the day of your appointment, you will need to present the letter from the District Attorney's Office along with a government issued identification document.  If your property has been held for safekeeping and is not involved with a criminal case, additional documentation may be required when claiming your property.
