Summit County Seniors offer a variety of services that are beneficial to its members. The goal of these services is to promote the well being of its members physically, socially, and mentally. All seniors, including non-members, are invited to use these services. Specific time and date information for these services can be found in the current Newsletter.

Adult Day Care

Timberline Adult Day Services, also housed at the center, provides daytime care for adults limited in their ability to function independently. Services include healthy meals and snacks, social experiences, daily exercise, music, medical monitoring and activities in a safe, nurturing environment. If a person qualifies under the Home and Community Based Services Program, Medicaid will cover the cost of services. For more information, please call 970-668-2952.

Ask A Money Manager Day
Local money managers come to lunch once a month. They give a short presentation and then are available for a private question session.

Ask A Lawyer Day
Local lawyers visit the Center bi-monthly to answer any legal question you may have. You may talk to the lawyer during lunch or wait and talk privately after lunch. If more help is needed, referrals are made.

Blood Pressure Check
Blood Pressure Check are provided
at the Center every 2nd and 4th Tuesday
at 11:30am. This is a convenient way to keep
track of your blood pressure readings.

Computer Help
Help with specific computer problems is offered by John Roberts,who can be contacted at 668-8961. If you are taking a computer class at Colorado Mountain College, members of the computer committee can help you.

File Of Life
File of Life insures that Emergency Medical Technicians called to your home will immediately know your health history. The system could provide be potentially life-saving information. File of Life provides a magnetized pocket for your refrigerator containing a card with a mini-medical history. A compact version is available for use in your wallet.

Five Wishes
Five Wishes is the first living will that talks about your personal, emotional and spiritual needs as well as your medical wishes. This Five Wishes booklet gives you a way to control something very important: - how you are treated if you get seriously ill. The form is easy to complete and lets you say exactly what you want. Once it is filled out and properly signed it is valid under the laws of most states.

Flu Shots
Flu shots are provided each Fall by nurses from a local clinic. Payment is Medicare or a fee. Schedules are announced in the Newsletter and in the News section of this site.

Health Tips
The Summit County Seniors have an active Senior Wellness committee that works to promote the health and well being of its members. In addition to valuable programs that the committee sponsors throughout the year, they also provide monthly health information in the Newsletter. Articles from experts in the field of health and aging are included for the purpose of educating the members. Suggestions and contributions are welcome and gratefully accepted.

ID/Name Tags
Seniors 60 years of age and older, and who are a resident of Summit County, qualify to receive photo ID which can be used for senior discounts. The Senior ID cards are issued on the third Thursday of each month. Summit County Seniors blue plastic nametags may be ordered for $5.50. Just stop by the office.

Weekly Meals
Summit County Seniors host three meals throughout the week. These nutritious meals provide a great opportunity for socialization and entertainment.

Monday Nights
Dinner is served Monday evenings at 5:30 PM at the Community & Senior Center. Culinary arts students prepare these delicious meals and many evenings include entertainment ranging from musical groups to presentation on issues important to seniors. This is a self-supported meal. The charge for the meal is either $5 or $8, dependant on annual income. Reservations are required by the previous Tuesday evening. Call 668-2940.

Tuesday/Thursday Lunches
Lunches, supported by the Older Americans Act, are served each Tuesday and Thursday at noon. Reservations are required 24 hours in advance. Call 668-2940. A suggested donation for the meals begins at $2.50 for those 60 years of age and older. Cost of the meal for individuals under 60 is $6. Menus can be previewed in the Newsletter on a monthly basis.

Home Deliveries
Home Delivered meals are available to the homes of older adults who are unable to cook for themselves.

Medicare Counseling
Confused about the your Medicare bills? Summit County Senior staff has been trained to help you with this often times frustrating and overwhelming task. Call the office for help, 970-668-2940. Another resource for Medicare information is 1-800-332-6681

Outreach Committee
We all need help sometimes and your senior friends are ready to provide it if you inform this special committee of the need. If you know someone who needs some kind of help, please call the Center at 668-2940. The office will take your calls and inform a committee chair, Karen Fox or Joan DeGraaff, or you may email Joan directly at jdg@colorado.net.

Volunteers are also needed.The Outreach Committee provides rides for medical appointments, help with shopping and cleaning, hospital visitations, and other services. Volunteers find this service both enjoyable and rewarding. If you would like to volunteer or if you know someone who needs help, please let the committee know.

Transportation
Summit County Seniors are fortunate to have access to the local transportation system, Summit Stage for in-county transportation. The bus routes are convenient to most neighborhoods. Route schedules can be picked up at the Center or at the bus stops throughout the County.
Mountain Mobility is another form of transportation available to individuals unable to access the regular county transportation. Call 970-668-0999 to schedule rides on Mountain Mobility.

Transportation is available to the three meals at the Senior Center. Call Martha Kroepler at 970-453-8003 to arrange a ride to the meals.

Summit Stage provides transportation for seniors to attend organized activities both in and out of the county. When signing up for a trip with the Seniors make sure you ask whether transportation is provided through Summit Stage.

Medical trips to Denver are provided through volunteers working with the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program. To arrange for a trip to Denver call the Center at 970-668-2940 at least 5 days in advance.

Wellness Testing
Wellness Testing is being offered to Seniors by the Summit Medical Center. They are offering many lab tests such as complete blood count, chemistry panel, lipid panel, PSA and thyroid screen. These services are offered at a significant savings in dollars and are available on a year round basis, weekdays, 8-4:30. Forms are available at the Center office.
