CURRENT PLANNING

The Current Planning Division of the Planning Department is responsible for ensuring that development proposals are evaluated against the County’s Master Plans and the Summit County Land Use and Development Code ("Development Code").

The staff at the Planning Department answers land use questions about zoning, development proposals, the issuance of permits for the development, and use of property via phone (970.668.4200), by email, and in person at the Frisco County Commons located at 0037 Summit County Road 1005 (Peak One Drive) in Frisco.

The public's initial contact with the Planning Department staff is generally at the front desk, where they obtain the necessary information for plan submittals and applications. Typical development proposals may include: creation of a subdivision, a zoning amendment such as to rezone property to a planned unit development, a use requiring a conditional use permit, such as an accessory apartment, or a site plan for a commercial or multi-family project.

In many cases, such as a rezoning of property, a public hearing is held so that the Planning Commission and/or Board of County Commissioners may consider recommendations from the Planning Department, other agencies, testimony from the applicant, and from the public.
