Recycling Services
As of January 1st, 2006 Summit Recycling Project became a project of the new parent organization, High Country Conservation Center (HC3). Although the county now oversees the actual recycling operations, HC3 provides the education and public awareness programs for those operations. In addition to continuing work on waste reduction issues, HC3 also works on Green Building, Efficient & Renewable Energy and other resource conservation topics. Please visit the High Country Conservation Center Web site at www.highcountryconservation.org/.
The following items may be recycled at the landfill:
1. Tires*
2. Appliances**
3. Clean wood waste***
4. Electronics
5. Scrap Metal
*Tires are also accepted at your local tire store, and may cost you less than disposing of them here.
**Cooling Units/Refrigerators/Freezers etc. are accepted only after the Freon has been removed by EPA approved equipment and a certificate is issued to the consumer. Then bring the certificate with you, it will be collected at the gatehouse.
We cannot accept any cooling units without the certificate including air conditioners.
***Clean wood waste: Isolated loads of slash & logs (size is not an issue)are accepted daily. EFFECTIVE 1/1/09 stumps must be separated from slash. They are no longer considered slash rate & go into the landfill at current trash rates. Loads of dimensional lumber and pallets are also accepted at a reduced rate as long as the load is free of trash, metal (beyond small nails and screws), and rock or dirt. Please do not mix your slash with dimensional lumber or pallets. Chip product new in 2009 - 2 inch maximum size requirement to qualify for the chip price. The price defaults automatically to the slash rate if product does not meet these criteria - also no contamination in the chip load - trash, limbs, log ends, rocks or dirt. Loose trash rate applies to contaminated loads.
