Food Safety Courses:
Summit County Environmental Health offers two types of food safety courses - one designed for general food handlers and one designed for food managers.
Food Safety Training is highly recommended for all employees of a new Retail Food Establishment.
Management Food Safety Training is also one of the requirements to qualify for the Exceptional Commitment to Food Safety award.
These awards are given by The Summit County Environmental Health Department to recognize
exceptional retail food establishments in the county each September, during National Food Safety Month
Smaller group classes are usually held at the County Commons Building.
Larger groups from one establishment may be taught at your place of business.
Basic Food Safety Course
The basic food safety course is a 2-hour course and is ideal for all employees in a retail food establishment.
Topics covered in the course include:
This class is highly recommended for all retail food establishment employees. It is perfect for a newly opening restaurant - to insure complete food safety training of new staff - or an existing establishment that wants to keep staff up-to-date on proper food handling and food safety techniques and requirements.
Management Food Safety Course
The eight-hour managerial food safety course is taught in August.
This course covers similar topics as the Basic Food Safety Course, but in more depth and detail. This course is excellent for training the management staff in a retail food establishment, enabling those who attend and pass to train other staff.
Please contact the Summit County Environmental Health Department at 970-668-4070 for information on cost and dates training is available for either course.
