Summit County Ambulance Service operates as an enterprise fund of the Summit County government providing pre-hospital emergency medical services and ambulance transport to area and regional medical facilities, 24 hours a day 365 days a year for the residents and visitors of Summit County.
The Service has a staff of fifty five (55), of which twenty-five (25) full-time and (30) are part-time. The staffing consist of forty (40) EMT- Paramedics, one (1) EMT-Intermediates and eight (8) EMT-Basic with IV training. In addition nearly all of our EMT-Paramedics are trained in Critical Care Transport (CCT) to allow us to provide extended emergency transport care.
The Service is operated by eight administrative staff of which six (6) are full-time. The Office is open for administrative, billing, training and community out-reach services, Monday- Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm MST. Four of our administrative staff are also licensed EMT-Paramedics and provide us with the ability to staff up additional ambulances immediately when the need occurs.
The Field operations staff operate three rotating shifts, covering 3 full-time and 5 seasonal ambulances. Operations is organized to allow us to provide additional staffing for ambulances during peak county visitation periods or in the event of large emergencies.
Many of our staff hold additional specialized training allowing them to provide emergency medical support and/or incident command staffing for the Summit Rescue Group, Summit County -TEMS, wildland fires, state and national emergencies. Other staff provide pre-hospital emergency training for community members and teach at our local community colleges.
Marc Burdick, CCEMT-P- Director
Marc began his EMS career in Massachusetts in 1990 with Franklin Medical Center Ambulance as an EMT-Basic. Following graduation in 1994 from the University of Massachusetts with a degree in Human Biology he moved to Colorado where he worked as a ski patroller at Beaver Creek Resort. He subsequently graduated from the Wilderness Paramedic Program at Colorado Mountain College – Breckenridge and in 1998 was hired as a Paramedic with Summit County Ambulance Service. In 2001, Marc relocated to Santa Barbara, California and began working for the Santa Barbara County Public Health Department in the Emergency Medical Services and Public Health Disaster Preparedness Programs. He directed a number of successful projects including a county-wide implementation of Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD), EMS System re-design, EMS Pandemic Influenza Plan, and helicopter utilization study. He also coordinated a multiple site prospective study on the paramedic use of ondansetron (Zofran) which will be published this winter in the Journal of Pre Hospital Care.
In the fall of 2009 Marc re-joined Summit County Ambulance as their new Director, succeeding Sean Caffrey who had taken a new job with the State of Colorado EMS Office. Marc continues to be an active paramedic and serving as a Wilderness/SAR Paramedic with the Summit County Ambulance Service Wilderness Paramedic Program. He enjoys a variety of outside pursuits including back country skiing, trail running, and hiking.
James Woodworth, CCEMT- P-Deputy Director
James enlisted the United States Marine Corps after finishing high school in 1988, and served four years of active duty as a Field Scout in a Special Operations Marine Expeditionary Unit. IN 1992, he moved to Vail, Colorado after being Honorably Discharged and worked in the landscaping and food service industries. In 1993, he moved to Glenwood Springs to attend Colorado Mountain College and achieved EMT-Basic certification in 1994 in order to work as a whitewater river guide on the Colorado River. In 1996, he moved to Summit County and began working for SCAS. A 1999 graduate of CMC Breckenridge paramedic program, James promoted to Shift Supervisor in October of 2001 and Deputy Director in August 2009.
James is married and has one daughter.
Sharon Jones-Bird, Office Manager
Sharon Jones-Bird has 25 years experience in medical customer service and collections. Her career began in a medical office as a patient care representative and became a supervisor of the collection team. Her experience in a variety of medical offices provides a well-rounded knowledge of medical customer services.
She has worked with Summit County Ambulance for over nine years. As the Administrative Manager, she oversees the daily operations of the administrative / billing office. The experience and knowledge she brings to the organization assures exceptional customer service and an outstanding collection rate.
Jenn Oese, CCEMT-P-Training Supervisor
Jenn W Oese has worked in the EMS field for fifteen years and for Summit County Ambulance Service since 1996, the last twelve years as a paramedic and supervisor.
She is currently the Training Supervisor for SCAS, overseeing the Training Division which is responsible for new-hire training as well as providing continuing education to current staff.
Jenn has been working as a Field Training Instructor since 1999 and has been teaching Critical Care Transport curriculum since 2001. She holds instructor certifications in ACLS and PALS, as well as CPR and First Aid.
Prior to working for SCAS, Jenn began her career in EMS as a volunteer firefighter.
Bill Clark,CCEMT-P- Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Officer
Bill Clark started his EMS career in 1995 and has been an EMT-Paramedic since 1997. He has worked for Summit County Ambulance since 2000.
Bill took on the duties of CQI Coordinator in 2007, assisting the CQI Supervisor with all of Summit County Ambulance Service continuous quality improvement activities. In 2009 he started overseeing all continuous quality improvement activities under the new title of CQI Officer.
In addition to CQI activities, he continues to work as a Field Training Instructor and helps as an instructor for in-house training.
Kimberly Campbell, CCEMT-P- Disaster Management
Kimberly Campbell has worked in the medical field for twenty years and for Summit County Ambulance Service since 2003, the last 5 years as a paramedic.
She is currently a Paramedic II, Public Information Officer (PIO) staff and the Disaster Preparedness Coordinator for SCAS. She is an All Hazards Certified Type-3 Plans Section Chief and has been deployed on multiple disasters. She is a member of the Regional IMT as well as local IMT, and is an A-Team member for Colorado.
Kim has been working as a Field Training Instructor since 2006. She holds instructor certifications for CEVO and ACLS as well as CPR and First Aid.
Jill Ridenour, CCEMT-P- A Shift Supervisor

Jill Ridenhour has 27 years of experience in the profession of Emergency Medicine with 17 of those years at Summit County Ambulance Service. In the early days of her career with the service she worked as a volunteer responding to 911 calls from her home.
She was hired into a full time position with S.C.A.S. in late 1999, in addition to her field experience she has worked in the training division as a Paramedic II and as a Field Training Instructor and has spent time working with the Administrative Department. As a field supervisor she is now involved in the operations side of the service and believes herself to be a very “well-rounded” member of Summit County Ambulance Service team, she also holds the title of “Ships Counselor.” She maintains instructor certifications in ACLS, PALS, CPR and First Aide.
Jill has lived in Summit County for 23 years with her husband and has raised 2 children here.
Ben Dengerink,CCEMT-P- B Shift Supervisor

Ben has been involved in EMS since 1995, beginning in High School as a volunteer for the Arapahoe Rescue Patrol in Littleton, CO. He took his first EMT-B course while in College at the University of Colorado, Boulder and worked through college and after as an EMT with Flight For Life, Colorado’s ground Critical Care Transport program. In 2005, Ben attended the Paramedic program at Saint Anthony’s Central hospital in Denver, CO and began working as a part-time Paramedic for Summit County Ambulance Service shortly after that. He also worked full-time as a paramedic for Pridemark Paramedic Services in Boulder, CO, where he developed a database for maintaining education records for Pridemark and 20 volunteer agencies and participated in several other efforts. Ben came to Summit County Ambulance Service full-time in the spring of 2007 and was appointed to a supervisor position in the fall of that year.
At Summit County Ambulance Service, Ben oversees computer and radio infrastructure, including electronic patient care reporting and billing systems, mobile and portable radios, and this website. He has directed several projects, including implementation of mobile dispatch computers in our ambulances, multiple re-deployments of radio programming changes, and implementation of new software systems. Ben is also active with our Wilderness Paramedic Program. He enjoys many of the outdoor activities available in Summit County, including skiing, biking, and hiking, and is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Business Management from Colorado State University.
Ed Parry, CCEMT-P-C Shift Supervisor

Ed Parry began in EMS in Southern Utah, went to school and worked as an EMT and a paramedic in Minnesota before moving to Colorado 20 years ago. He is a graduate of the Century College paramedic program.
Lin Denham, Community Outreach and Public Information
Lin Denham has 25 years of community programming, administrative and teaching experience. She is an EMT-B IV and American Heart Association Training Faculty instructor.
She oversees our Community Outreach programs, including the Summit County Public Access Defibrillation Project-Keep the Beat Summit County, Colorado Life Traks-Summit County, Care Seat Safety inspections and programs for schools and community events.
Lin coordinates Ambulance Service community training program through the instruction and scheduling of classes in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider, Heartsaver CPR/ AED and First Aid Training. She also provides administrative support to the County Emergency Operations Center and Ambulance Service Public Information. An avid out door person she spends her free time nordic and back country skiing, bicycling and volunteering for a variety of community organizations.
