Countywide Vision - Preserve and enhance our vibrant, attractive, and prosperous mountain community where people choose to live, work, recreate, and visit.

The Countywide Vision envisions all elements of the Countywide Comprehensive Plan working together to encourage responsible growth and to maintain the County’s character and quality of life.  This will be accomplished by the following:

Land Use

·         Guide future land use decisions to ensure that growth occurs in appropriate locations and that our rural mountain character is maintained.

Environmental

·         Protect, enhance, and promote our environmental resources.

Transportation

·         Maintain and develop a comprehensive, safe, and efficient transportation system, with an emphasis on promoting viable alternatives to the automobile.

Housing

·         Provide for the diverse housing needs of all residents, workers, and guests in the County.

Community and Public Facilities

·         Adequate services should be planned and managed to ensure that the provision is consistent, reliable, and appropriate for the development it serves and compatible with the mountain environment.

Design and Visual Resources

·         Design development to complement the environment, existing neighborhoods, and the historic nature of the County.

Historic and Cultural Resources

·         Promote our cultural heritage through the protection of important cultural and historic resources.

Open Space Element

·         Preserve, protect, and enhance our County’s open space.

Recreation and Trails

·         Develop an integrated recreation system within the County that provides diverse, developed and undeveloped, recreational opportunities for all residents and visitors while protecting unique scenic and natural areas.

Economic Sustainability

·         Achieve and maintain an adaptive, resilient, vital economy providing opportunities and stability for County residents.
