SUMMIT COUNTY, COLORADO – The Summit County Board of County Commissioners, at the request of the Summit County Sheriff’s Office and the local fire chiefs, has lifted fire restrictions in unincorporated areas of Summit County. Resolution 2012-46, which went into effect yesterday, repeals the ban on open burning due to recent weather conditions and diminished fire danger. According to Lake Dillon Fire District Deputy Chief Jeff Berino, the Summit County fire danger had dropped to Moderate.

“The recent rains have certainly helped us out,” said Undersheriff Derek Woodman. “However, we urge everyone to continue to use caution with open flames outdoors, as things could dry out again very quickly.”

This change only affects the areas located in unincorporated Summit County; it does not apply to areas within the White River National Forest, which currently remain under Stage II restrictions.
