Buffalo Mountain Fire Burning in Summit County, Colorado

Wildfire has resulted in evacuation of two residential neighborhoods.

The Buffalo Mountain Fire is burning in Summit County, Colorado, near the town of Silverthorne. The fire was reported at 10:46 a.m., Tuesday, June 12.


The Summit County Sheriff's Office has issued an evacuation of the neighborhoods of Mesa Cortina and Wildernest, above 20 Grand Road, about half-way up Buffalo Mountain Road. Areas in those neighborhoods below 20 Grand Road are on pre-evacuation notice. Silverthorne Recreation Center, 430 Rainbow Drive, is serving as an evacuation shelter.


No vehicle traffic is allowed past Lowe's home improvement store toward the evacuated neighborhoods.
