LOG
CONSTRUCTION When evaluating the
structural design of log construction, plans examiners have to assign
an allowable strength for the logs. This means logs have to be graded
by an approved grading agency (similar to grading of dimensional lumber)
and basing structural calculations on the allowable strength for that
specific species and grade of log. Grading stamps must remain visible
on the logs until the framing inspection has verified those stamps for
compliance with the approved plans.
Plans shall specify the species and grade of all logs and reference the
agency which will be grading and stamping the logs. In addition, plans
must specify both average (midpoint) and minimum (tip) log diameters so
that required structural analyses may be performed. |
